CloudFront reaches a custom origin over plain HTTP

Severity
Low
Service
CloudFront
Check ID
CLOUDFRONT_ORIGIN_HTTP_ONLY

What this check finds

A custom origin of this distribution uses origin protocol policy HTTP only, or Match viewer under a behaviour that allows HTTP viewers, so traffic between CloudFront and the origin crosses the internet unencrypted. S3 website endpoints, which only speak HTTP, are not reported.

Passing looks like: CloudFront reaches custom origins over HTTPS.

How to fix it

Serve HTTPS on the origin and set its origin protocol policy to HTTPS only.

AWS console

CloudFront → Distributions → select distribution → Origins → select origin → Edit → Protocol → HTTPS only.

Compliance controls it is evidence for

A failing result counts against these controls in KloudLytics; a passing one is evidence towards them. How compliance mapping works

Checked on every scan

KloudLytics runs this check each time it scans a connected AWS account, through a read-only role, and lists every affected resource with its region. On Pro and Business a fix is written for the specific resource rather than the general case above. The exact access it needs
